General Description:

Under minimal direction, responsible for facilitating play opportunities throughout Oklahoma Children’s Hospital, and in collaboration with certified child life specialists under the direction of the Child Life and Therapeutic Programs department.

Essential Responsibilities:

Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position.  Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position.

  • Creates and facilitates developmentally appropriate play opportunities both at bedside as well as in group settings, including Child Life Zone sessions during evenings and weekends.
  • Collaborates with unit child life specialists to support the play and developmental needs of patients and/or families.
  • Assists with volunteer supervision.
  • Maintains and manages toy storage and organization on units and in Child Life Zone.
  • Supports patient special event programming by planning, collaborating, and implementation of special events.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s Degree in Child Life, Human Development, Education, Medical or related field preferred. 

Experience: Current or previous experience working with children who are typically developing and/or with special needs preferred.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current Basic Life Support issued by RQI system required upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  Must have knowledge of play, family dynamics, cultural awareness and human growth and development. Must have effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to work with an interdisciplinary team. Skill in the supervision of volunteers. Must have good interpersonal skills to develop effective working relationships and to deal with difficult family/individual dynamics. Knowledge of performance improvement tools and how to monitor an ongoing process. Skill in planning programs and analyzing the problems that arise. Good presentation skills for representing the Child Life Department to internal and external audiences. Computer skills and a general knowledge of office procedures
