General Description: Under the general direction of the Vice President of Revenue Cycle, works jointly with Revenue Cycle vendor and vendor’s hospital-based Patient Financial Services Directors to develop and lead process improvements and departmental projects for OU Health Patient Access departments. Additionally, the Director of Revenue Cycle is responsible for the development, implementation, and on-going support of the departmental Manager in Training program.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Development and successful implementation of a Manager in Training (MIT) program
  • Serves as the primary leader for guiding and developing selected candidates through the Manager in Training (MIT) program, to include onboarding, rotation, debriefing, and day-to-day guidance
  • Works closely and meets regularly with Revenue Cycle vendor and vendor’s hospital-based Patient Financial Services Directors to identify areas of process improvement
  • Process improvement areas may include, but are not limited to, denials, point-of-service collections, standard scripting, and exceptional service delivery, for all Patient Access departments and departmental based registration areas
  • Defines and implements programs and initiatives to support revenue cycle optimization
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with OU Health, Inc.’s hospital financial assistance policy, to include required signage
  • Responsible for updating and/or maintaining all Patient Access forms and signage
  • Responsible for updating, maintaining, creating and implementing Patient Access Policies
  • As directed, works closely with Patient Financial Services Directors to effectively and efficiently manage departmental projects as they arise, to include new EHR design and implementation, and the transition to a hospital based patient accounting department
  • Actively participates in the Revenue Cycle Monthly Operations Review (MOR)
  • Ensures all deadlines are met
  • Interacts with staff, management, physicians, and patients regarding patient accounting questions, concerns, and performance
  • Leads, develops, coaches, and effectively manages the team to ensure deliverables and performance metrics are met.  Develops team to accomplish results through training, development, performance management and recognition.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:  5 to 7 years of progressive leadership experience, including at least 3 or more years in revenue cycle in a management, supervisory, lead, or project management role.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: None

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of patient accounting including billing, collecting, and auditing.
  • Knowledge of the structure, function, and management of the revenue cycle in a large healthcare organization.
  • Skill in managing employees in the accomplishment of organizational objectives.
  • Skill in effective communications, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a timely manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders within the organization
  • Strong influence skills
  • Ability to maintain integrity and trust among leadership and staff 
  • Demonstrated business acumen
  • Must be a strategic thinker, self-motivated and have excellent problem solving and project management skills
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office tools.
