General Description

The Director of Talent Development is a critical enterprise leader responsible for designing, delivering, and continuously improving development programs that grow the capabilities of leaders and team members across OU Health. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Talent Development & Organizational Effectiveness, this role leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of leadership programs, employee learning pathways, onboarding experiences, and development resources that build a culture of accountability, inclusion, and performance. This role partners closely with clinical, academic, and operational stakeholders to ensure that all development programs align with OU Health’s leadership competency model, support strategic workforce goals, and enhance the employee experience.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Drive the development and implementation of enterprise-wide talent development strategies that align with OU Health’s mission, values and leadership expectations.  

  • Lead the execution of OU Health’s onboarding strategy to ensure new employees and leaders experience a consistent, welcoming, and impactful introduction to the organization.

  • Own and manage OU Health Rise, the enterprise-wide new employee orientation program, ensuring every new hire is introduced to our mission, culture, and strategic priorities with consistency and excellence.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders in HR, Clinical Education, IT, and operations to co-design development and onboarding content that meets workforce needs and regulatory requirements.

  • Deliver talent development programs, employee training initiatives, coaching and mentoring, and organizational learning experiences. (Guild Education, OU Health Leadership Academies, Leadership Lunch and Learns, etc.)

  • Embed OU Health’s Values, inclusion principles, and leadership competencies into every talent development initiative to reinforce the OU Health Way.

  • Manage relationships with vendors and external partners for learning tools, content, and platforms, ensuring alignment with OU Health’s goals and standards.

  • Measure and improve the effectiveness of all talent development programs through data analysis, learner feedback, and business outcomes; adapt based on findings.

  • Facilitate Workshops, Coaching, and Leadership Sessions, bringing a strong presence and credibility to all levels of the organization.

  • Lead the governance, configuration, content strategy, reporting, and user support of the HealthStream Learning Management System to ensure regulatory compliance and system effectiveness.

  • Manage a high-performing Talent Development team to deliver exceptional enterprise support.

General Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required.

Experience Requirements

  • At least 7 years of experience in Talent Development, or a related field and at least 5 years of progressive leadership experience required.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

  • SPHR, SHRM-SCP or other approved relevant certification required at time of hire or obtained within 12 months of hire. Internal employees transitioning to this position must have the required certification at the time of transfer.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Deep expertise in adult learning, instructional design, onboarding strategy, and leadership development.

  • Strong technical knowledge of LMS administration, data reporting, user access, and compliance workflows (HealthStream or comparable system).

  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

  • Project management and change leadership skills with the ability to deliver scalable, high-impact programs.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to track, interpret, and report performance data.

  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence across departments and functions.

  • High emotional intelligence and commitment to developing inclusive learning environments.

  • Commitment to achieving results and driving continuous improvement, focusing on measuring the effectiveness and impact of learning and development programs.

  • Strong ethical and professional standards, demonstrating integrity, transparency, and accountability in all aspects of leadership and decision-making

  • Strong leadership and management skills to inspire, motivate, and effectively lead a team of talent development professionals.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey complex concepts clearly and concisely, facilitate discussions, and present information.
