Shift: Full Time

General Description: Under the general direction of the Investigational Drug Services Clinical Specialist, the IDS Pharmacy Technician is responsible for performing tasks involved in the Investigational drug preparation, distribution of investigational medications checked by a licensed pharmacist, including IV admixture and sterile hazardous drug preparation.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage the clinical investigational drug (CID) Inventory.
  • Provide technical assistance with clinical trial protocols including, but not limited to, knowledge of investigational pharmacy equipment, organization of study binders with all required documentation, and set-up for all clinical trials.
  • Maintain information and assist in the record keeping related to clinical trials required by the study protocols.
  • Perform drug distribution activities (Including IV admixture, sterile hazardous drug preparation and chemotherapy preparation)
  • Participate in preparation of investigational products for pharmacist verification in accordance with established procedures
  • Assist in maintenance and proper functioning of equipment used in the investigational pharmacy.
  • Perform quality improvement reviews and assist in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

Education:  None required.

Experience:  Minimum one year experience in healthcare.  1 or more years of experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital setting preferred.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required:  Permit as a pharmacy technician by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy when eligible within the first six weeks after placement in this position.
Must pass the OU Health Center Pharmacy Technician exam with a minimum score of 75% within 6 weeks after placement in this position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:    

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
  • Must have excellent organizational, planning and computer skills (excel, word etc.)
  • Knowledge of general science and math
