General Description:

The Systems Engineer for Microsoft 365 supports the configuration, and maintenance of Microsoft M365 SaaS applications and on-premises SharePoint environments. Participates in the design configuration, problem diagnosis, maintenance, and installation of these systems. Validates system functionality after changes. Participates in testing and installing new software releases and application system upgrades and Disaster Recovery exercises. Analyzes, monitors, and fine-tunes these systems to achieve optimum performance levels.   This position works very closely with other corporate, division and facility technical personnel to coordinate the implementation and ongoing support of the m365 environment. The system engineer also provides support for problem management escalations which cannot be resolved by the service desk or other technical analysts, and coordinates installation of new equipment, technologies, and processes for projects.
 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Serves as lead resource and subject matter expert to other engineers and analysts and Architecture teams and project managers.
  • Collaborates with Administrators to resolve incidents and requests.
  • Designs and implements technology and processes according to principles established by architecture team.
  • Performs engineering analysis of issues escalated through problem management.
  • Develop, test, and deploy release packages to production including collaboration with Administrators and Service Desk resources ensuring that production releases are operationalized, documented, and supportable.
  • Provides local leadership, subject matter knowledge, coordination, and communication for projects, including defining scope, and ensuring deliverables are met.
  • Participates, as needed, in division/facility technical implementation projects
  • Creates business case proposals, analysis of technologies, financials, and proposed project plans.
  • Participates in strategic planning, creation, and maintenance of standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Proactively addresses changes in business requirements by leveraging existing infrastructure investments and providing scalable options.
  • Coordinates a team assigned to accomplish specific technical tasks.
  • Manages data collection, reporting, and trending for critical devices and components.
  • Where necessary, provides 24x7 on-call support based on IT staff rotation and carries a phone as warranted, to assist with escalated incidents and requests.
  • Leads the build of technology operational models and workflows for the business.
  • Provides strategic contingency planning from the perspective of technology service line.
  • Provides vendor management, service level definition and service level management for vendors of technologies and/or services.
  • Actively forecasts workload, prioritize, and allocate resources.
  • Installs and supports server, storage, and desktop technologies for centralized division and/or facility equipment (including operating system maintenance, application maintenance, image archive, disaster recovery) Provides operational applications support
  • Mentors and trains Technical Services personnel, as needed.
  • Effectively works with enterprise and business IT personnel to ensure that priorities and standards are achieved.
  • Coordinates and participates in regular meetings and workshops with technical staff to ensure timely transfer of knowledge which impacts storage architecture and security policies.
  • Adheres to and supports OU Medicine IT standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintains and protects confidentiality with regard to all aspects of patient care and employee information.
  • Adheres to Code of Conduct and Mission & Value Statement.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in information systems or healthcare-related field or equivalent experience.       

Experience:

5 years’ experience in a technical role directly supporting Microsoft 365 in an enterprise Information Technology environment.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required:

  • Microsoft 365 Associate required within 6 months
  • Advanced training, experience, and/or certification in datacenter, server, network and security standards, equipment and protocols is also desired. 
  • Technical certifications and experience - highly desirable: Microsoft Certifications (Fundamentals, Associates, Expert), MCSE, CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Vmware, Imprivata,
     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Passion to understand the mission of OU Health and to leverage technology expertise to improve business and clinical processes.
  • OSI Model
  • Agile/Scrum work methodologies
  • ITIL and ITSM Terminology and framework
  • Extensive knowledge of M365 and SharePoint in large environments
  • Extensive knowledge with Microsoft 365 configuration and custom solution architecture
  • Well experienced in Microsoft 365 tenant administration
  • Deep knowledge of M365 security practices
  • Strong understanding of SharePoint on premise environments and the underlying technologies
  • Familiarity with Power Apps and Power Automate development practices and configuration
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills.
  • Capacity planning experience.
  • Requires a strong knowledge of supported server, storage, application, network, security systems, virus protection, and hardware configurations.
  • Microsoft Server OS
  • MS Active Directory administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • VMware vSphere, VMware Server, VMware vSpere Hypervisor (ESXi)
  • Scripting (Powershell/python/Batch)
  • Additional skill in technology stack a plus (Rubrik, LanDesk, SolarWinds, Nessus, Linux, Splunk, Bluecoat, Veeam/Backups, Storage, etc.)
  • Collaborative Approach - Acts as a role model and educator for other technical resources.
  • Maintains subject matter depth and breadth and knowledge of current issues.
  • Is available and accessible; maintains a positive attitude.
  • Organization - Proactively prioritizes needs; effectively manages resources.
  • Communication - Communicates complicated technical scenarios in common terms; Communicates clearly across a wide audience (oral and written communications).
  • Customer Orientation - Establishes and maintains long-term customer relationships, builds trusts and is respected by consistently meeting or exceeding expectations.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Demonstrated strength in statistical/analytical tools for system monitoring.
  • Ability to communicate ideas effectively explaining technical concepts to non-technical and technical Staff Members.
  • Logical and methodical thinker to present the best solutions based upon the existing and future environments.
