Job Description:

Coordinates operations of inpatient and outpatient testing in alignment with institutional and department/division mission, vision, and objectives. Serves as a key member of the leadership team with a primary focus on, planning and implementation of policies and systems. Facilitates project management while leading a multidisciplinary team including financial analysis, problem solving, and collaboration. 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Project Management including short-term and long-term projects. 
  • Reports to the designated Lab Operational Director and performs delegated tasks. 
  • Development of business plans in collaboration with SME lab managers. 
  • Billing Compliance Work Queues maintenance and oversight. 
  • Cost accounting for new testing platforms and as vendor contracts change. 
  • Assists with development of standard operating procedures for new processes. 
  • Oversees supply management and interacts with supply chain to meet laboratory needs. 
  • Ensures the management of equipment, materials, and supplies required in the section.   
  • Provide focused managerial support as needed and assigned. 
  • Focused data gathering and presentation to leadership and in-services to supporting departments and/or clients 
  • Assists in collaboration with the Laboratory Director and Medical Director of the laboratory to ensure appropriate standards of service, practice, & care are established in accordance with state & federal law, Joint Commission, the College of American Pathologists (CAP), and any other regulating agencies. 
  • Is responsible for the accreditation application related to their area of responsibility. 
  • Leads, develops, coaches, recruits and effectively manages the team to ensure deliverables and performance metrics are met.  Develops team to accomplish results through training, development, performance management and recognition. 
  • Assumes responsibility of own professional development and acts as a mentor for others. Regularly rounds with staff to create individualized plans for their development based on their own career goals. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  Bachelor's degree required.

Experience:  5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting with 3-5 years of progressive leadership experience required.

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required:  Nationally recognized certification through one of the following governing accreditations: ASCP, AMT, AABB, NASKL, ASCLS, HHS, ASHI, AAB, ABB, AMS, CRP, EBPH, Military or NILA required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Must be able to work as part of a team and follow instructions. 
  • Must be able to consistently and dependably report to work as scheduled.   
  • Must be able to lead a team to complete a goal.   
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and work accurately with names, numbers, and codes.   
  • Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information and exercise sound judgment.  
  • Must be able to multi-task and remain calm in stressful situations.  
  • Must possess the ability to understand various operations, policies, and procedures.  
  • Ability to work and communicate with co-workers and other caregivers, and meet their needs in a professional, polite, courteous, compassionate, and cooperative manner.  
  • Must display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards establishing priorities and completing assignments efficiently.  
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and demonstrate attention to detail. 
  • Advanced knowledge of current laboratory practices, techniques, and terminology.   
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills.  
  • Must be able to organize and evaluate work requirements to meet deadlines.   
  • Must be able to compile and analyze data for operational monitoring and contractual agreements and review.
