Job Description:

Provides institutional expertise in laboratory operational needs including connectivity and interfacing of analyzers, middleware, and general computing needs. Evaluates and promotes new technologies with a focus on streamlining manual processes and increasing overall quality. Participates in the development and advanced implementation support of automated clinical processes. Provides at-the-elbow and other first-line end-user support for laboratory staff. Coordinates and champions lab IT requests.  

Essential Responsibilities

  • Ensures regulatory requirements and standards are met and adequately documented. 
  • Coordinates with OU Health IT staff to ensure laboratory needs are met. 
  • Guides section managers, supervisors, and team members when reviewing, upgrading, and/or installing interfaced equipment. 
  • Creates and monitors alerts to ensure instrument and middleware interfaces are operational. 
  • Ensures data and reports are available for supervisors and medical directors. 
  • Ensures LIS procedures are accurate, complete, up-to-date, and document-controlled. 
  • Operates and calibrates, lab printers, and other miscellaneous laboratory equipment. 
  • Assess, verify, and document the validation of laboratory interfaces. 
  • Aids in assessing new testing platforms for interfacing and ongoing support requirements. 
  • Partner with lab managers to create and utilize new KPIs. 
  • Maintains inventory and logs of deployed devices, stocks mission-critical backup devices, documents maintenance as performed, and identifies devices reaching EOL. 
  • Participates in laboratory Quality activities by providing data analytics services. 
  • Act as liaison between lab staff and OU Health IT in managing collaborative projects.  
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree required

Experience: 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory with evidence of responsibility for Laboratory Interface build and maintenance. Experience with web application preferred.

License/Certifications/Registration Requirements: Comp TIA A+, Comp TIA Network+ or SQL preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to compile and analyze data for operational monitoring which results in focus studies or process improvement.  
  • Advanced problem-solving skills including the ability to lead and direct staff in an effective manner.  
  • Ability to initiate dispute resolution effectively. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders. Strong influence skills and ability to motivate others. 
  • Ability to maintain integrity and trust among leadership and staff.  
  • Proven ability to collaborate with a variety of stakeholders to achieve a goal. 
  • Demonstrated business acumen. Demonstrated business understanding and ability to balance people/ organizational decisions with business considerations. Experience using metrics to drive decisions and working with external vendors. 
  • Must be a strategic thinker, self-motivated, and have excellent problem-solving and project management skills. 
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple high-priority deliverables. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. 
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office tools. 
  • Experience with using charts and infographics to summarize data for decision-makers. 
  • Successful deployment of web-based tools for data collection and summary. 
  • Basic understanding of networking, databases, and development of custom software solutions highly desirable. 
  • Experience working in a secure computing environment and advanced understanding of cybersecurity principles is highly desirable.
