Location: Oklahoma Children's Hospital

Shifts Available: 12 hour shifts, 3 days a week, Nights

General Description: Under limited administrative direction, provides clinical oversight and coordinates the assignment of patient care beds. Serves as a hospital representative and nursing manager and provides guidance to hospital staff concerning nursing care and related activities. Essential Responsibilities

  • Serves as primary hospital administrative official for after-hours business for all administrative inquiries.
  • Aligns behaviors with OU Health values and maintains nursing professional practice standards.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and compliance of regulatory requirements, Ethics and Compliance policies, and quality initiatives.
  • Screens admissions for appropriateness of level of care orders and bed assignments.  
  • Prioritizes bed assignments for all admissions and transfers in the hospital.
  • Escalates medical necessity and admissions status issues through the established chain of command.
  • Acts as a liaison between and with physicians, patient/family, hospital staff, patient care areas, and outside agencies in an effort to promote efficient patient flow.
  • Facilitates daily bed management meetings and effectively communicates resources and issues to appropriate areas.
  • Tracks and trends barriers to patient flow.
  • Handles any public relations matters and provides guidance to campus police as appropriate.
  • Serves a critical role in coordinating hospital activities in catastrophic situations such as fires, flooding, disasters and power outages and line breaks.
  • Resolves staffing problems caused by employee absences, inclement weather or other problems involving bed shortages or serious staff behavior issues.
  • Coordinates timely response and related activities of emergency codes.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required. Master's in Nursing preferred.

Experience: 3 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse in an acute care setting, with 3 years of progressive leadership experience.

License/Certification/Registration:

  • Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of advanced professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures. Often serves as a mentor and resource for team members across patient care areas.
  • Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques. Can work independently and lead a team.
  • Ability to maintain civility and good working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
  • Skilled in computer applications designed to ensure quality and safety measures for patients.
  • Ability to establish and maintain integrity and trust with patients by advocating in the patient’s best interest.
  • Ability to engage and manage conflicts and disagreements in a constructive manner.
  • Ability to maintain compliance accreditation with local, state, and federal regulatory standards.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive workplace where diversity and individual differences are valued and maximized to achieve the vision and mission of the organization.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills characterized by candor, openness, integrity, and ability to be diplomatic.
  • Skilled in advanced care delivery models and environmental design to ensure delivery of safe patient care that is evidence-based.
  • Ability to align behavior with personal values and determines fit with the organization’s culture.
  • Knowledge of the principles of effective bed management in a hospital.
