Location: Oklahoma Childrens Hospital
Shift Available: Full Time (four, 10 hour shifts with a rotating off day), on call 1 – 2 days per week and 1-2 weekends per month
The Oklahoma Children’s Hospital Cardiac Operating Room is a tight knit, highly specialized unit consisting of 7 Registered Nurses and 2 Scrub Nurses. As the only congenital cardiac surgery provider in the state of Oklahoma, we are a high-volume center with NATIONALLY RANKED outcomes. Dr. Harold Burkhart, along with our expert team, has performed countless operations that have improved the lives of numerous congenital cardiac patients both in Oklahoma and surrounding states. We perform life-saving cardiac surgery for patients as young as only a few hours old, as well as adult congenital cardiac patients. Our unit consists of 2 cardiac operating rooms and state-of-the-art Hybrid Cath Lab. We also have a 25-bed cardiac ICU that can be transformed into satellite, mini-operating rooms. Our cardiac VAD and transplant program was UNOS approved in early 2024 and which has catapulted us into an exciting new realm of care. General Description:
The Perioperative Circulator is a RN who plans, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates nursing care for patients whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised during operative or other invasive procedures. Using clinical knowledge, judgment, and clinical-reasoning skills based on scientific principles, the perioperative nurse plans and implements nursing care to address the physical, psychological, and spiritual responses of the patient having an operative or other invasive procedure.
Essential Responsibilities:

- The Perioperative Circulator will be responsible for the direct and indirect provision of professional nursing care of the patients in the operating room.
- The nurse will be accountable for ongoing evaluation and documentation of all components of care delivered to patients within the perioperative environment utilizing the nursing process.
- The Perioperative Circulator individualizes patient care according to patient’s health status, age level, and surgery/procedure being performed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Graduate from an accredited school school of nursing required. Bachelor of Science (or higher) in Nursing Board Approved Program preferred.
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience in an acute operating room environment or employees with less than one (1) year of acute operating room experience may substitute experience with the completion of department orientation or completion of RN residency program.
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact RN License (eNLC). CNOR preferred. Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques and procedures.
- Excellent understanding of AORN Standards.
- Ability to organize, plan, coordinate and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Some computer skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team providing excellent specialized care.
