General Description:
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a Physician Assistant, Radiologist Assistant, or a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner. Under direction, plans, organizes and directs all technical / procedural aspects including equipment and related personnel of the Vascular Access Services (VAS) department, while providing high quality clinical care to all patients.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care and has accountability for the provision of professional care through supervision by and collaboration with a physician.
- Manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members.
- Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.
- Maintains a sterile field and environment
- Works collaboratively with providers to ensure safe quality care is being delivered
- Communicates clinical knowledge of appropriate indications, contraindications, risks, and side effects
- Performs clinical consultations, including initial consultation and assessment, informed consent, follow-up visits, and patient care
- Adheres to guidelines as it pertains to radiation dose and protection, As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA)
- Formulates a plan of care for patients that involves the patient as partner and considers the individual needs of the patient.
- Articulates and translates the patient's condition to other care providers and negotiates and makes recommendations for changes in patient care and clinical practices.
- Develops others, and precepts students and learners. Analyzes clinical and behavioral situations, identifying learning opportunities to improve patient care practices.
- Supports continuous learning in the clinical area by sharing research, materials from professional organizations, presenting in the clinical setting, supporting journal clubs, etc.
- Identifies opportunities for clinical quality as well as workplace improvement.
- Applies evidence-based practice as a regular aspect of professional practice.
- Serves on or leads teams that launch innovations in patient care or support a healthy workforce.
- Serves as a leader in one or more of the following areas: clinical expertise, teacher, specialized resource, and/or evidence based practice.
- Consistently gives appropriate feedback to all members of the health care team and participates in the peer review process.
- Promotes change that enhances the quality of patient care and the clinical environment.
- Actively participates in hospital and system-wide committees and/or council.
General Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Master’s degree required in one of the following:
Graduate of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA),
Or
Graduate of an accredited academic institution as a Registered Radiology Assistant.
Or
Masters of Nursing from an approved school of nursing
Experience: None required. 1-3 years of experience or completion of a post-graduate residency preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire. Also required:
If PA: Current Oklahoma license as a Physician Assistant.Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
If RA: Current Oklahoma license as a Radiologist Assistant and registration with the American Registry of Radiological Technology (ARRT).
If RN: Valid Oklahoma nursing license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, AND a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) from the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing. Must be Acute Care Certified.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the IR and VAS procedures, medications, operation and monitoring of ionizing radiation equipment, apparatus and storage.
- Knowledge of prescribed safety standards as outlined by the Council of Radiation Protection and Monitoring.
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
- Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the patients served.
- Demonstrated ability to apply principles of acceptable professional practice.
- Demonstrated critical thinking in all areas of professional practice. Demonstrates highly developed clinical assessment and analytical skills.
- Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles relative to the patient’s age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other medical staff, peers and subordinates.
- Effective verbal and written communication. Leadership, partnership, collaboration and supervision skills.
- Keen cultural awareness including preventing and addressing horizontal violence and impairment.
