General Description:
This position will be responsible to the day-to-day operations and organization of a specific location(s). Performs various technical and clerical duties related to assisting medical providers and patients, phlebotomy and specimen collection. Responsible for training of new staff as well as assessing yearly competencies. Coordinates with Preceptors and Supervisor for completion of all training checklists and documentation.
Essential Responsibilities:

- Performs routine phlebotomy procedures, drawing blood samples and handling other samples, for laboratory analysis as ordered by the attending physicians and in accordance to procedure.
- Ensures properly identified and labeled specimens in accordance with authorized technical procedures and laboratory policies.
- Ensures prompt delivery of the samples to the laboratory for analysis.
- Responsible for ordering and maintaining inventory to ensure adequate supplies are available.
- Complies with all hospital and laboratory safety policies and procedures including the appropriate us of PPE.
- Participates in performance improvement activities and supports the hospital in meeting regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Participates in laboratory quality activities including quality monitoring and auditing, occurrence/deviation documentation and performance improvement.
- Maintains accurate records, documents and files as required.
- Monitors maintenance and temperature logs for completion and proper documentation assists with follow up activities for missing documentation.
- Assumes responsibility of own professional development and acts as preceptor for new staff.
- Assist Supervisor and Quality Coordinator with new employee training plans, prepare training checklists, and training of students during clinical rotations.
- Assists Manager and Supervisor to find coverage for vacant shifts and call in's.
- Participates in laboratory Quality activities by providing data analytics as needed.
- Provides LIS training to frontline staff and leaders as appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Outpatient only:
- Registers patients, orders tests, and verifies completeness of orders and billing information.
- Enters patient demographic data, insurance and billing information, and the specific laboratory tests ordered by the medical staff into the laboratory computer database.
- Performs other job duties as applicable such as administering glucose tolerance test and sweat chlorides.
- Prepares specimens for transport to lab including but not limited to pouring off urines and centrifugation of blood samples as appropriate.
- Maintains inventory and logs of deployed devices, stocks mission critical backup devices, documents maintenance as performed and identifies devices reaching EOL.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Completion of a Phlebotomy training course, medical training course or on the job training required.
Experience: 5 or more years of experience required.
License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire. ASCP or other phlebotomy certification required.

- Ability to work and communicate with co-workers and other caregivers, and meet their needs in a professional, polite, courteous, compassionate, and cooperative manner.
- Must display a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards establishing priorities and completing assignments efficiently.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision and demonstrate attention to detail.
- Advanced knowledge and understanding of normal laboratory testing processes and specimen requirements.
- Ability and skill to apply theory, practices and techniques to perform, post-process, analyze and annotate data or procedure documentation.
- Ability to prioritize and complete clinical or non-clinical work assignments. Ability to assist in the pre-analytical phase for specimen procurement, identification and proper specimen handling.
- Performs troubleshooting and problem solving.
- Takes active role in resolving problems as they are reported by other staff that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results.
- Knowledge of phlebotomy policies, procedures, techniques and processing requirements.
- Excellent verbal and written communications, in accordance to PAACT agreement.
- Phlebotomist must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served by his or her service, including all types of phlebotomy procedures.
- Must follow policy regarding HIPAA and privacy of confidential information.
- Core level knowledge of normal laboratory testing processes and specimen requirements.
- Ability and skill to apply core level theory, practices and techniques to perform, post-process, analyze and annotate data or procedure documentation.
- Ability to prioritize and complete clinical or non-clinical work assignments.
