Job Profile Summary

The Contact Lens Fitter is responsible for evaluating, fitting, and customizing contact lenses to meet patients’ visual and medical needs. This role includes patient education, follow-up care, and collaboration with clinical staff to ensure optimal outcomes. The Contact Lens Fitter adheres to the Federal Trade Commission’s Contact Lens Rule and relevant certification standards, including NCLE and CLSA guidelines.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Verify contact lens history and assess visual acuities.

  • Determine appropriate lens parameters based on clinical evaluation and patient needs.

  • Design and fit custom contact lenses for medically indicated cases.

  • Perform refraction and analyze computerized corneal topography.

  • Provide follow-up care and monitor patient outcomes.

  • Educate patients on lens care, hygiene, and wear schedules.

  • Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to support integrated patient care.

  • Provide guidance to Contact Lens Assistants in patient management.

  • Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical records (EMR).

  • Ensure compliance with FTC’s Contact Lens Rule, including timely prescription release.

General Responsibilities

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience required.

License/Certification/Registration Requirements

  • Current Advanced Certification for Contact Lens (NCLE-AC) certification required.

  • Contact Lens Society of America (CLSA) Fellow

  • Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of contact lens types, fitting techniques, and ocular anatomy.

  • Skill in refraction and corneal topography analysis.

  • Ability to design and fit specialty lenses for complex visual needs.

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.

  • Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions.

  • Effective communication and patient education skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced clinical environment.

  • Familiarity with EMR systems and basic computer applications.

  • Commitment to patient safety and regulatory compliance.
