TITLE: ANDROLOGIST I
POSITION INFORMATION: Primary responsibility for the daily activities of the Andrology/Endocrinology laboratory; assists in the total quality management of the laboratories to insure compliance with regulatory authorities/organizations.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Assures proper sample collection, delivery, and identification
2. Logs in specimens
3. Assists with preparing and analyzing serum for hormone immunoassay using an auto-analyzer
4. Assists with performing semen analysis, and sperm cryopreservation
5. Assists the embryologist in performing clinical laboratory protocols relating to analysis and preparation of semen specimens for use in Embryology laboratory
6. Assists with processing semen for ART procedures and intrauterine inseminations (IUIs)
7. Assists in the isolation of sperm from semen, epididymal and testicular tissue for in vitro fertilization and microinjection
8. Under the direct supervision of the laboratory supervisor, participates in the quality management of the Andrology/Endocrinology laboratory
9. Maintains Andrology and Endocrine laboratory databases
10. Assists laboratory personnel in performing lab services in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws and guidelines to ensure laboratory maintains accreditation
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in a biological or physical science, Medical Technology or other health-related field; OR non-science bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 24 hours of college-level course work in the sciences to include 12 hours of chemistry (inorganic and organic chemistry) and 12 hours of course work in the biological sciences OR have earned an associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution
Experience: Experience using a microscope, prior training or experience in using laboratory instrumentation. Experience with Excel and Word and knowledge in the use of Access. Tissue culture experience and/or semen processing preferred. Experience in a chemistry analyzer preferred.
